Energy Progress Inspections

With New York City aiming to reduce the carbon emissions generated by its buildings, the construction industry is called upon to play its part to ensure all building work complies with the New York City Energy Conservation Code.

CANY is qualified to undertake energy code progress inspections for building owners and/or developers to ensure the installation of identified energy related items conform to construction documents, specifically the EN drawing set approved by the DOB at the outset.

We focus on the relationships and encourage good communication to find ways to resolve potential issues from the very beginning of the project through every stage, to final TR-8 sign off.  Within the scope of building enclosures, our energy progress inspections incorporate the following as outlined in 1RCNY §5000-01:

1.     Protection of exposed foundation insulation. Verifying that exposed foundation insulation is properly protected.

2.     Insulation placement and R-values. Verifying that insulation is properly installed and R-values conform with the approved energy requirements.

3.     Fenestration and door U-factor and product ratings. Verifying that fenestration and door U-factors, SHGC values, and VT values conform with the approved energy requirements.

4.     Fenestration air leakage. Verifying that windows and door assemblies are listed and labeled by the manufacturer to the referenced standard, and curtain wall, storefront glazing, commercial entrance door and revolving doors have been tested and comply with approved energy requirements.

5.     Fenestration areas. Verifying the dimensions of windows, doors, and skylights.

6.     Air barriervisual inspection. Verifying that the air barrier is properly installed and continuous around the envelope and forms an airtight enclosure and air barrier system has been tested and meets the requirements of respective standard(s) cited in the approved plans.

7.     Vestibules. Verifying entrance vestibules are properly oriented.
