CANY are often to called upon to give expert testimony in legal cases relating to architectural, engineering and/or construction deficiencies, defects, or failures. We have a trusted reputation to forensically analyze claims, illuminating routes through disputes that give clarity to all parties. This is due to our in-house capability in drafting, documentation, comprehension of building codes compliance, as well as being hands-on and out in the field, inspecting, managing contractors, and overseeing complex building enclosure and façade projects.
Our architecture expert testimony is based on a process of invasive and non-invasive inspections and an in-depth analysis of the results, drawing on technology and our own insight, backed up by almost three decades of industry experience. We can provide the service for building owners, developers, co-op owners, residents, contractors, insurers, and lawyers.
We’ve worked, for example, for a lawyer representing the purchaser of a new building that did not deliver on the specifications outlined in the original development. The doors looked like the high-performance ones specified, but they performed poorly, preventing the purchaser from taking up occupancy. Through a series of onsite testing, documentation and code-compliance reviews, we established the contractor had in fact made substitutions to cut costs.
After working in new construction and heritage restoration in New York City since the 1990s, there isn’t much we haven’t seen. So, if you need expert testimony in a building enclosure or façade dispute, please contact tseminara@cany.com.
