CANY is an IAS-accredited NYC Special Inspection Agency for Building Enclosures, which includes periodic inspections for masonry, wall panels, curtain walls, veneers, and combustible wall panels. Unlike regular Building Enclosure Inspections, Special Inspections are mandated by the DOB and play a critical part in getting a project to the finish line to attain a certificate of occupancy. Key markers in a project’s trajectory, Special Inspections give insight into processes and practices in the event anything goes wrong.
Given the significance of Special Inspections, our qualified Special Inspectors are highly experienced and impartial. Our focus is on the relationships, encouraging good communication to resolve potential issues from the very beginning of the project through every stage, to final TR-1 sign off. Examining every document in the pipeline, we work with the client, construction managers, contractors, manufacturers, and all project teams to review the requirements of the Special Inspection, focusing on getting to the finish line with all non-conforming items resolved and closed out, to ensure a smooth sign off.
We invest in the Special Inspection process, undertaking the required organization obligations of a Special Inspection Agency with the International Accreditation Service and the NYC DOB. It sharpens our insight, better prepares us for our work as architectural and engineering building enclosure consultants and provides great mentoring opportunities for our colleagues. All our supplemental special inspectors are qualified project managers and work under the supervision of our primary special inspectors who are licensed architects and engineers. We strive to find solutions that work for everyone to ensure building enclosures are constructed in accordance with relevant building codes, industry standards, and approved construction documents, playing a key role in upholding the legacy of NYC’s unique skyline.
